Band practice today! Cai Yan came! :D Sometimes I complain about Cai Yan but I can never be unhappy for long. Not to mention long, it'll only be like a few hours. She's nice :) Today we had marching! :D Marching is fun! At first the Sec 1s didn't know what to do so we just stood behind their rows not knowing that one row can only have 3 people, so we formed another row. Then Major asked us to stand according to section. Samuel didn't come today, so it's just me and Kevin as usual. Then some people said the Sec 1s don't know anything so Major asked us to step out. Then Cliff asked us to watch our seniors and taught us that Senang Diri position is feet apart and hands locked behind, no fidgeting. Then asked us to follow what they did, very funny how we did, no energy. I fidgeted a bit then he said no fidgeting, must ask for permission. Then Rebekah and Liang Rong took us and taught us some basic commands and position. We have to count when we are getting into a position.
They told us to pluck 2 leaves each from the plant behind us. By the way, the are we used is the same place we used on Tuesday where I got bitten mosquitoes, so I got bitten again and I wasn't alone. Then they told us to put the leaves under our armpits. The purpose is so that our arms will be firm by our sides and we won't swing our arms when we change position. What an interesting and fun way to teach us, haha! :D We learnt Sedia (Attention) and Senang Diri (At east). Have to count "1,2!" because there are 2 steps to take.
After learning that, we learnt turning-turning left and right, still couldn't remove the leaves. As I said, it's to make sure we don't swing our arms. We learnt Ke Kanan Pusing (Turn right) and Ke Kiri Pusing (Turn left). When we do the position, we have to say "Turn, Check, Bang!" the "Bang" is optional. There are 3 steps-turn, lift up one leg and stamp. "Turn" turning is using the front leg's heel and back leg's toes (if turn left then left leg is in front), then "Check" is lift up the back leg (since it's behind) and "Bang" is putting down that foot beside the front one. "Turn check bang!" so cool! :D
Next we learnt Ke Kanan Lurus. That's to check attire-not our own, the attire of the person on our right. "Up check bang!" :D Ke=turn, Kanan=right, Lurus=straight (according to Liyana). We're supposed to stretch our right hand 90 degress to the tight and tilt (not turn) our head to the right to check our alignment (whether we're aligned with the person on the right and in front) and shuffle into position if we're not. Then the person in front of us shuffle, we also must shuffle to be straight. Oh yes, after learning Sedia and Senang Diri, we had to hold 2 rocks, one in each hand so our fists are clenched. Then Taufiq kept giving commands and we kept positioning ourselves (he took over half way).
Oh yes, then there's this Check exercise-stay in check position for minutes. Tired! Haha! Had break at 10am until 10.30am. Then Sectionals and Combined. I still haven't learnt March "Blue Sky" yet. Cai Yan taught me Majulah Singapura. My 2nd bar(1st bar's rest) isn't very good so she kept asking me to play it over and over again. I play so many times until sometimes cannot reach high D. Then she asked Kevin to play together with me. Kevin kept stopping then continuing again then Cai Yan went "Why are you like worse than her? People junior you know? Junior depend on Senior to continue the song, you depend on her to continue? If she don't continue you don't know when to come in right?" Haha, then he said "I know la" Cai Yan really thinks he so bad till he doesn't know when to come in? Not that bad, just kept stopping only. Then he went to practice himself while Cai Yan continued teaching me. Cai Yan took his mouthpiece (don't know why) so he just watch us then he suddenly point to my lips and said "Purple" and we were like "Huh?" He said "Her lips purple." I went "Really?!" Then was combined already. Majulah Singapura first then March "Blue Sky". After practice, Cliff said it was Shimei's birthday, so we sang her a birthday song and Benedict played it on his Clarinet. Kevin has the scores for Happy Birthday too :D He said Cai Yan asked for it from the Trumpets.
Today's practice was so fun! :D Opposite from yesterday's practice. I love my band and my seniors! They're so dear!
